Jannie’s Woodwork Tips – Countertop Maintenance
Are you that person who thinks your countertop is sorted when you purchase cleaner and wipe it down? We are here to tell you otherwise. It is very important to service the back part of your tops, where the top meets the splashback, tile or wall.
To start, when the tops are installed these areas should receive a healthy dose of silicone (not the acrylic type that can be painted).
Once installed, ongoing maintenance is very important. We find that these areas are very seldom maintained as they should be. If water or any other spillage runs behind these places then costly damage occurs.
We strongly recommend a “service” and reseal of these areas every 6 months. Cleaning agents break down the silicone so this is vital.
At Wood Worx by Cubit we offer a countertop service from R1200 on smaller kitchens. This is a nominal fee that could save you a small fortune over the course of time.
